It comes as no great surprise that the biggest (continuing) trend in the marketing of your website in 2013 comes in the shape of mobile searches. If your website can’t be viewed easily on a mobile device, we’re finally at the point that loss of business has gone from maybe to definite.
Analysts Morgan Stanley have released some rather substantial reports on the state of play as regards mobile searches through 2013 and into 2014, indicating that most internet searches will be coming from mobile devices, from smartphones to tablets and on their own, they explain quite succinctly why you need a mobile website.
Marketing research firm Sterling Research came to the following conclusions:
A remarkable two thirds of smartphone users say that a mobile ready website makes them much more likely to purchase that firms goods or services, with 74% stating that a mobile friendly website will make them much more likely to return to that site for another visit. It also feels encouraging, in that the business involved has very obviously made an effort.
61% of visitors state that if they don’t find what they’re looking for quickly, they will go to another site, probably a competitor. This is born out by something that’s very obvious – having to cope with a fixed width website on a mobile phone is an exercise in frustration, with multiple zooming. Remember Opera Mobile from a few years ago on an old Nokia, anybody?
